Norton Summit
ABOUT THE CLIMB
Undoubtedly Adelaide's favourite climb for cyclists, Norton Summit packs 6.33kms of continuous climbing with little opportunity for rest until the very top of the climb. Not as gruelling as the nearby Woodland Way, it makes up for it its insidious mix of false flats, gradient spikes and distance.
We measure from the junction of Magill Road where you begin the climb immediately. The first kilometre is spent climbing to the panoramic left-hand view of the city above the housing development near Rostrevor College. The second kilometre is a false-flat as you drag yourself to the first switchback. The third kilometre is a sequence of switchbacks which will give you a chance to get out of the saddle and push hard. The next two kilometres will get you out of the seat as you experience maximum grades of around 30% before you practically charge to the crest at Teringie Drive.
